The Nazi Minister of Education for Prussia, Dr. Bernhard Rust, yesterday ordered an investigation of the charges preferred by Nazi students against the Jewish professor, Ernst Cohn, who has been the target of persistent attack and villification on the part of the Nazis since his appointment to the Law Faculty of the University last November.

Two representatives of the Ministry of Education visited the University of Breslau yesterday in connection with the investigation and interrogated fifteen students in connection with the charges.

The probe lasted for several hours, following which Professor Cohn was permitted an opportunity to submit his rebuttal.

The representatives of the Ministry of Education have returned to Berlin where they will submit their report to Dr. Rust.

It is believed that the formal ouster of the Jewish professor will now be accomplished since a Nazi occupies the strategic position of Minister of Education.

Immediately after Hitler’s appointment as Chancellor and the replacement of Minister Kaehler by Dr. Rust, Rector Brockelman of Breslau University announced that he could no longer be responsible for the safety of students attending the lectures of Professor Cohn. Professor Cohn thereupon posted a notice on the University bulletin board that his lectures would be suspended for the time being. At the same time he made known his intention of presenting his case to the highest authority.

As a civil servant, in the employ of the State, Professor Cohn cannot be discharged except for breach of discipline. In the past, despite the efforts of the Nazis, no such breach could be discovered.
