Warning that deportation faces Germany’s Jews unless they emigrate voluntarily was published today by Das Schwarze Korps, organ of Chancellor Hitler’s Elite Guards. At the same time, the periodical urged Berlin to follow Vienna’s example by carrying out the same “joyous, logical purge” of Jews.

The paper said: “We must convince the Jews that it is impossible for them to stay longer in the Reich. It is better for them to pay the Reich ‘flight tax’ (25 per cent of prospective emigrants’ wealth) today than to be deported tomorrow to Palestine or Madagascar — a solution which is inevitable as soon as the other states come to their senses. The old Reich must not provide refuge for Viennese Jews. We must follow the example of Vienna and carry out the same joyous, logical purge.”

The popular cure and bathing resort, Wiesbaden, was today practically forbidden to Jews. Under regulations going into effect May I, Jews are barred from most of the resort’s facilities and are permitted to use certain bathhouses only at stipulated hours.
