Many Dutchmen have been arrested for attempting to aid Jews to escape deportation to eastern Europe, it is admitted in the Nazi-controlled Deutsche Zeitung Niederlanden, a copy of which was received here via underground channels. The paper says that Dutch Christians are sheltering Jews and are preventing the police from uncovering “Jewish hideouts.”
The Nazi publication also reports that landlords have been instructed to report to the police the race of all their tenants “in order to prevent mistakes.” It adds that a large number of “fugitive Jews” were recently sent to concentration camps following a decree ousting all Jews from several Dutch provinces.
