The McCormack Congressional Committee to Investigate Nazi Propaganda in this country resumed private hearings in the Bar Association Building, 42 West Forty-fourth street, Friday.
Congressman Carl M. Weideman of Michigan, member of the committee, constituted the subcommittee at morning and afternoon hearings. While no other members of the committee took part during the first day’s hearings, others, including Chairman John W. McCormack and Vice-chairman Samuel Dickstein, were expected to take part Saturday. Dickstein was in New York Friday but was occupied with other business.
The hearings, reported to be the final secret sessions before open hearings are held in Washington on June 5, were termed “the most secret of all” by one of the assistants at the Bar Building.
No details were forthcoming from either Weideman or his aides, and reporters were not permitted to remain in the building to indentify witnesses brought before the sub-committee.
