At least twenty witnesses were called yesterday to testify before three-day session of the Congressional committee investigating Nazi and other alien propaganda in the United States.
Congressman Samuel Dickstein, who presided at the hearing, declared that the committee is investigating the so-called Nazi youth camp in New Jersey, fostered by the Friends of New Germany.
“We are here to clear up the complete story of the Nazi youth camp in New Jersey and every other camp in the United States engaged in un-American activities,” Representative Dickstein said.
The camp served as a recruiting ground to draw young German Americans into the Nazi ranks, Mr. Dickstein declared, adding that Hugo Haas, leader of the group, had boasted the Nazis would have similar camps all over the United States within one year.
The hearings are being held in the Bar Association Building, 42 West Forty-fourth street.
