Unprecedented brutality was displayed yesterday by uniformed and armed Nazi storm troopers at the annual meeting of the dentists of Berlin. The Nazis invaded the hall where the meeting was held, demanding that the executive board, which included several Jews, resign immediately and that the meeting be conducted under a Nazi presidium. While the Jewish members of the executive committee immediately left the platform, the non-Jewish chairman, a German Nationalist, stubbornly refused, whereupon the Nazis with levelled revolvers dragged him from the hall. At the same time, they ordered all Jewish dentists present to leave the hall.
The meeting continued without its president and Jewish members and elected a “pure” Nazi executive board.
Something must be done to provide better protection for Jewish holders of the Nansen, League of Nations, passports, is the plaint of the Jewish holders of the passports in London, who suggest the appointment of a special representative by Geneva.
The present Nansen representation in Germany consists of one Russian, himself a holder of a Nansen passport, and a German who is allegedly a Nazi sympathizer.
The Nansen office in Berlin is flooded with Jewish inquiries and requests for intervention, but it is taking no action, asserting that nothing can be done under the present regime. It is believed that a special Geneva representative could accomplish more for the protection of holders of the Nansen passports.
