Colonel Ulrich Fleischhauer of Erfurt, Germany, publisher of an anti-Semitic bulletin, today decided to accept the post of expert on the authenticity of the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” and will testify for the Nazi defense, Theodore Fischer, chief counsel, announced today.
In the meanwhile, the defense also offered to present Major Henning of Berlin, former German military attache in Moscow, to testify as expert to prove the connections between the Jews and the Freemasons.
Judge Mayor, who is presiding at the trial of the four Swiss Nazis charged with publishing and circulating the “Protocols,” announced that the court will decide in a few days whether to hear Major Henning before the resumption of the trial in December.
The trial of the Swiss Nazis began on October 29 and was continued until November 1, when Fischer, who is also head of the Swiss Nazi organization, asked for a postponement on the ground that they had invited Colonel Fleischhauer to act as expert for the defense and he needed time for a decision as to acceptance and in order to prepare his case.
The attorneys for the Jewish plaintiffs, leaders of Swiss Jewry, agreed to the adjournment in order to deprive the Nazis of an opportunity to call the judgment unfair.
A number of distinguished Jewish and non-Jewish witnesses, including Dr. Chaim Weizmann, Chief Rabbi Dr. Marcus Ehrenpreis of Sweden, Senator Mayer Ebner, Professor Paul Miliukoff, Vladimir Burtzev, Sergius Swatikow and Count du Chayla, testified that the “Protocols” were rank forgeries.
