Nazi barbarism against Jews was condemned here today by Prime Minister Mackenzie King of Canada in a message to the Canadian Jewish Congress in connection with a mass-meeting which will be held here on Sunday to protest against the mass-executions of Jews in Nazi-held territories.
“At a time when Nazi brutality and barbarism have asserted themselves anew against the Jewish race, I count it a privilege to send to the Canadian Jewish Congress a message of cordial greetings and good will,” the Premier wrote. “People of the Jewish faith throughout the world have long endured oppression of the most inhuman kind and under the Nazi regime this oppression has reached the limits of extreme cruelty. Persecution of Jews is part of the poisonous doctrine of race hatred. Among the ideals for which Canada as a nation has taken up arms is that of racial equality.”
“The Canadian Jewish Congress also received a message today from Cardinal Villeneuve, archbishop of Quebec, endorsing Sunday’s meeting and pledging the Catholic Church’s support in the protests against the Nazi atrocities. Among the speakers at the meeting will be United States Ambassador Pierrepont Moffat and Canadian Secretary of State Norman McLarty.
