Jewish physicians who have been certified to continue practice under the new medical law, which deprived all but a handful of them of their licenses as of Oct. may resume work in private and semi-private insurance panels, it was decreed today, However, they may treat only Jewish patients and must obtain the approval of the German Panel Doctors’ Association. The decree does not affect Austria.
All Jewish physicians certified to continue treating Jews must display a shingle bearing a yellow circle surrounding a blue six-pointed star against a blue background with the legend: “Entitled to handle Jews exclusively.” The signs must not bear any reference to the practice of medicine, except for the word “doctor” prefacing the name. Certain specialists will be permitted to call attention to their specialty.
It was also announced that all Jews with passports valid for travel abroad must present them before oct. 21 to be stamped with a large red letter “j” on pain of confiscation of the passport plus a fine and other punishment.
