A 20 per cent levy imposed on the fortunes of Jews last November, in reprisal for the assassination of a Nazi diplomat, was raised to 25 per cent today in order that the total “fine” assessed on Jews should reach the required 1,000,000,000 marks ($400,000,000), the United Press reported from Berlin.
The extra 5 per cent is payable Nov. 15. Count Lutz Schwerin von Krosigk, Nazi Finance Minister, imposed the additional levy by decree.
