The extent of looting of property in German-annexed sections of Poland is revealed by an order of Mayor Scheffler of Poznan requiring the turning over to the authorities by April 20 of furniture and household goods of formerly Jewish and Polish-owned apartments on pain of heavy punishment.
The order warns all inhabitants in the Poznan urban district, including “people of the German race,” to report immediately to the furniture department of the municipal administration any furniture obtained directly or indirectly from confiscated or deserted Polish and Jewish apartments or property acquired without intervention of the authorities.
