A big “show” will be made of the trial of Herschel Grynszpan young Polish Jew, for the murder of Ernst vom Rath, German Embassy official in Paris in 1938, according to reports from Paris today. The trial is expected to open shortly.

Grynszpan shot and fatally wounded vom Rath on Nov. 7, 1938, in what he said was a protest against Nazi persecution of Jews. He was being held in a Paris prison pending trial when the German invasion of France began. The young Polish Jew was evacuated from Paris before the occupation of the capital, but later fell into the hands of the Germans, who transported him to Berlin.
The assassination of vom Rath was the signal for the unleashing of a wave of anti-Jewish disorders throughout the Reich and the imposition of a $400,000,000 “fine” on Germany’s Jews.
