German broadcasters today continued bitter attacks against the Petain Government with the charge that “reactionary elements at Vichy supported by fat Jews” were seeking to bring about a restoration of the monarchy.
The Petain regime was warned by the Nazis that it was mistaken if it believed the working people of France would maintain the political apathy which tolerated “the inglorious career of the Republic.”
The German controlled Paris radio assailed the criticism levelled against Germany for forcing workers of occupied territories to go to the Reich for work. The announcer asserted that Czechs Poles and others were taken into Germany to relieve unemployment in their own countries and their sojourn in the Reich “gave them great advantages.”
