The Nazi authorities have been conducting a series of systematic raids on Jewish restaurants, cafes and hotels here and in Zoppot, nearby resort city, during which many Jews have been maltreated. Many Jews, mostly Polish citizens, were placed under arrest when their documents were alleged to be not in order. In some instances, guests at hotels were dragged from their beds.
A number of British Jewish tourists were rounded up in the raids on restaurants and cafes. Among the places raided were the Union Restaurant, the Cafe Elite and the Cafe Konti.
The authorities have formed a central Jewish organization to concentrate Jewish economic, religious and philanthropic activities. The organization is unlike the normal Jewish Community in that it does not have the right to levy community taxes.
