Despite a personal protest from the Czechoslovakian Minister, Reich authorities today refused to reconsider the expulsion order issued against Ernest Popper, Czechoslovakian citizen, Berlin correspondent of the Prager Tageblatt and of the Neues Wiener Journal. He was given notice that he must leave the country within ten days.
It was disclosed today that some time ago Popper was arrested by the secret state police and maltreated for six days. He was released on his pledge that he would not report the arrest and was assured that he would not be further molested by the authorities.
The expulsion order charged Popper with “poisoning the international atmosphere by reports.”
