The Polish Government-in-exile announced today that the Nazis have ordered confiscation of all immovable property held by Poles and Jews in the western part of German-occupied Poland and have instituted six-month compulsory labor service for Poles and Jews between the ages of 18 and 25. A communique said the measures were a “violation of existing international laws.”
Acting under instructions to confiscate immovable property, the Mayor of Poznan has ordered registration of all real estate holdings in that city, it was said. Simultaneously he ordered that rent should not be paid to Poles or Jews but to an especially-established Nazi office.
The effect of these measures is to legalize previous confiscation of property in western Poland and the drafting of Poles and Jews in these areas, since virtually all Jews have been expelled from this section and youths have already been rounded up for forced labor.
