German newspapers reported today that registration to establish the racial origin of 30,000,000 Germans residing abroad has been started by the Foreign Institute at Stuttgart.
The project is being carried out by the institute’s section for the establishment of family origin of Germans residing abroad.
At the present time, the department is concentrating on the United States, compiling names from telephone and commercial directories, church records and sailing lists.
The report of the project states that “among those who come under the registration are Germans in the United States who became estranged from Germany in language as well as culture.”
