A synagogue in Nancy, German-occupied France, has been transformed into a fodder storehouse, it was reported here today. The local chief rabbi, Hagenauer, was forced to leave the synagogue house and take up residence in a porters’ lodging.
Hagenauer is one of the three chief rabbis remaining in the occupied zone. The others are Rabbis J. Cohen of Bordeaux and M. Ginsburger of Bayonne. The remainder of the rabbinate is in the free zone, including Issaye Schwartz, chief rabbi of France.
