Nazism was condemned as an enemy of Western culture and Jewish ethics lauded as the “everlasting ideals of humanity” at a mass meeting today against race hatred attended by Chancellor Kurt Schuschnigg and other Cabinet ministers.
Humanitarian principles based on Jewish, Christian and Hellenic cultures were praised by Cudenhove Kalegri, the principle speaker, who attacked Nazi racial theories and called the Nazis “swindlers and robbers who compel the people to glorify them as heroes while writers and thinkers are allowed to starve.”
The demonstration, attended by many influential persons opposed to Nazi Germany, concluded with a declaration that minorities would always enjoy freedom and equality of rights according to Austrian tradition.
