A plea of not guilty was entered in the Special Session Court, 120 Schermerhorn street, Brooklyn, by Abraham Kaufman, president of the Neboh Kosher Provision Company, charged with offering for sale four barrels of non-kosher briskets and four barrels of tongues. The case was adjourned to July 3.
The complaint was made originally by a member of the office of Arthur Simon, confidential investigator for the Department of Health. The case was heard in various magistrates’ courts of Brooklyn, and finally the defendant was held for trial in $500 bail.
In a long decision Magistrate Malbin reviewed the details of the case and gave his definition of what constitutes kosher meat. He stressed the tremendous growth of the kosher products industry, declaring that so many people are placing reliance in the firms dealing in them that fraud should not be tolerated.
