Rabbi Israel Miller, chairman of the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations said he was “deeply gratified” by discussions he was in Washington last Thursday with Israeli Foreign Minister Yigal Allon on Israel’s public relations needs in the United States. Rabbi Miller said he had exchanged views with Allon on new ways to support Israel’s cause in the United States and also on the “special importance” of expressing solidarity with Soviet Jews following the Soviet decision to nullify the 1972 trade agreement with the United States.
Allon, Rabbi Miller said, evinced a close understanding of the importance of strengthening programs of information and education in the general and Jewish communities in the U.S. The American Jewish leader said there was broad agreement on the need to build public appreciation of Israel’s need for secure and agreed-upon borders and on the role of an economically and militarily secure Israel in enhancing American strategic interests and advancing the cause of world peace.
