Negotiations between Israel and Transjordan for a non-aggression pact have been adjourned until after the April elections in Transjordan, the Belgian Consul General told a press conference here today upon his return from Amman, capital of Transjordan.
The Beirut radio today reported that the Transjordan Minister in Lebanon had a telephone conversation with King Abdullah of Transjordan, following which he denied that Transjordan had signed a non-aggression pact with Israel. However, the King is reported to have said that “the present situation in Palestine cannot continue indefinitely, bringing misery to the inhabitants there.” He then emphasized that he has decided to seek “a decent solution.”
The Israel Government today permitted civilians to settle in an area near Gaza which was heretofore designated as “no-man’s land.” Last week the area was divided equally between Israel and Egypt. Israel army patrols will guard the border after the first Jewish settlers establish their homes in the area.
