Cincinnati Negroes in cooperation with others of their race throughout the nation will celebrate “Rosenwald Day” in honor of the seventy-second brithday anniversary of the late Julius Rosenwald, Chicago Jew and philanthropist on February 4.
The ceremony will be held in Allen Temple of the African Methodist Church which occupies the edifice formerly used by the present congregation known as Rockdale Avenue Temple.
The Ten Commandments in Hebrew still can be seen in stone high up on the church’s front walt. Alfred M. Cohen, president of the Constitutional Grand Lodge of the B’nai B’rith, will be one of the speakers. Mr. Rosenwald made possible the erection of sixteen Negro Y.M.C.A. buildings including one in West Ninth Street, Cincinnati. He also donated $3,333,852 towards erection of 4,138 school buildings in the South for Negro children.
