The avowed neo-Nazi parties in this city-state lost considerable ground in this week-end’s elections which saw the centrist-rightist “Hamburg Bloc” take control of the local administration. In total, the neo-Nazi groups received 10,000 votes, barely one percent of the total.
Leader of the Hamburg Bloc, which includes Chancellor Adenuer’s Christian Democratic Union and three other groups as far right as the reactionary German Party, is Emil Blumenfeld, a half-Jew and leader of the local Christian Democratic Union. Dr. Kurt Sieveking, the Hamburg Bloc’s mayoralty candidate, was for many years before the Hitler regime an official of the Warburg bank in Hamburg.
