The mass-deportation of Dutch Jews to Eastern Europe was denounced today as “a crime against all patriotic Dutchmen” by Peter Gerbrandy, Premier of the Netherlands Government-in-Exile, broadcasting to the people of Holland.
Describing the deportations as “the latest example of Nazi savagery,” the Dutch premier warned his listeners that “a similar horrible fate awaits the 3,000,000 Dutch people whom the Nazis are planning to wrench from their homes in order to depopulate Holland.” He urged the population of Holland to “bear stoically this new crime against the Jews and to remain steadfast and cling to your faith that the weapons of tyranny will never permanently conquer the citadels of the human spirit.”
