Eleven-members of the Neturel Karta, ultra-Orthodox group, were arrested today following a clash with the police. Four others were detained yesterday after they had started a fracas with clients of a cafe near the Mea Shearim quarter, where the Orthodox Jews are concentrated.
The eleven arrested today were part of a group which stoned the police when they attempted to dismantle a roadblock in Mea Shearim. The barrier was erected to block the path of a bus which had been used to transport people on the Sabbath to a swimming pool in the nearby Judean Hills.
The other four were charged with disturbing the peace when they attempted to enforce their injunction that the cafe close down for the Sabbath. Patrons of the cafe objected, fighting broke out, and the police were called.
