New Amendments to Immigration Law Proposed

A bill to amend the present immigration law so as to exempt from the quota the brothers and sisters of American citizens was introduced by Senator Royal S. Copeland of New York.

Congressman Kuntz of Chicago introduced a bill to amend the law so that the terms father, mother and child should also include step parents and step children. There is, however, little chance for these bills to be passed, it was stated.

JEWISH COMMUNAL ACTIVITIES

A new synagogue will be erected in Wheeling, W. Va. early this spring.

A membership campaign will be launched on March ## by the National Council of Jewish Women, according to the announcement made by Miss Rose Brenner of Brooklyn. N. Y., National President of the organization, in making public the appointment of Mrs. Max L. Margolis of Philadelphia, as Chairman of this campaign.

Temple B’nai Israel, the first synagogue to be erected in Irvington, N. J., was dedicated with exercises continue for five successive nights. Town officials, clergymen and laymen participated in the dedication ceremonies for the new edifice which has a seating capacity of nearly ### and was erected at a cost of $100,000. Max L. LeBow is president of the congregation.

Professor Boris Schatz, founder and director of the Bezalet School of Jerusalem, announced that the Bezalel Art Exhibition will be opened Sunday afternoon, for two weeks, at the Grand Central Palace, New York. Paintings, art objects, wood carvings, silver ornaments and every kind of work produced by the school during the last twenty years will be exhibited.

Special Palestinian entertainments have been arranged.

A committee of prominent American Jews, headed by Nathan Straus, Honorary Chairman, and James N. Rosenberg, Chairman, is sponsoring the exhibition.

A testimonial dinner to Joseph Barondess will be given on March 1 at the Manhattan Opera House, New York, as a tribute to his forty years of service to the Jewish people.

The Arrangements Committee consists of the following: Herman Bernstein, chairman; Samuel Palley, treasurer: Dr. Nathan Ratnoff, secretary; Solomon Lamport, Israel Marz, Rev. Z. H. Masliansky and E. Schmerler.
