An alarming report of new anti-Semitic excesses in the city of Bucharest arranged by anti-Semitic students was just received here from Bucharest.
The excesses developed as the result of a students’ street demonstration expressing the demand to introduce a numerus nullus, i.e., to bar all Jewish students from Roumanian colleges and universities.
The crowd broke through the line of gendarmerie which had been placed on the streets to maintain order and attacked the newspaper offices of the “Rampa” and “Adeverul,” breaking the windows in the offices. Jewish passersby were attacked; stores and shops on Belvedere and Bacanstrasse were raided and demolished. The workshop of a Jewish tailor, Aaron Blumenfeld, on Spinzisstrasse, as well as several other Jewish stores, jewellers’ shops, and private Jewish homes were invaded. Much damage was done by the students.
The two children of Leon Moritzen, who were ill in bed were attacked and seriously injured. All windows of Jewish homes were broken on Moschilor and Vacartes Streets.
Thirty students who were arrested by the police were later released.
