The Independent Order B’nai Brith is sending another committee to Mexico to investigate the status of the Jewish immigration there. The committee will be composed of Archibald A. Marx. of New Orleans and Rabbi Zielonka, of El Paso.
The committee will leave on July 15 and will visit all of the principal cities of Mexico, each of which now has a “baby” Jewish colony, sprung up within the last two and a half years. In the past few years, between 700 and 800 Jews have established themselves in Mexico City.
A propondering majority of these immigrants, who came to Mexico, expecting to use that country merely as a way station to enter the United States, are now said to be successfully established in the Republic. Few are said now to have any desire to leave and the I.O.B.B. officials are of the opinion that Mexico presents splendid “opportunities for commercial advancement for those immigrants who are willing to struggle in order to get a foothold.”
