The Jewish community of Bonn plans to build a one-story synagogue and community center on an estate which it owns next to the West German Foreign Ministry. The estate was given to it by the North Rnine-Westphalian state government, which will also pay construction costs in compensation for two synagogues in Bonn destroyed by the Nazis in 1938.
The community, which includes Jewish residents of Bonn and several nearby towns number 120 members. The synagogue will have a seating capacity of 90 plus community offices and one classroom. There are only five children of school age in the community.
