A poll published by Haaretz Monday claimed that 39 percent of Israelis would accept participation by the Palestine Liberation Organization in a reconvened Geneva peace conference if the PLO recognized Israel’s right to exist. The poll, conducted by the Port Public Survey Group, said that 47 percent of the respondents supported the government’s official position that it will not negotiate with a terrorist group under any circumstances. No opinion was registered by 13.5 percent. The results of the poll indicated a slight shift in favor of negotiations with the PLO though no basis of comparison with earlier polls was given.
