Major General P. S. Gyani, newly-designated commander of the United Nations Emergency Force, left New York by air today for UNEF headquarters in the Gaza Strip. He is to take over command of the 5,000-man force on December 28.
Gen. Gyani told correspondents here today he had no information about reported United Arab Republic troop concentrations in the Sinai Peninsula. He declined to discuss the Middle East situation, stating that his assignment was simply to command the UN forces there. The Indian general was briefed extensively at UN headquarters on his new duties and will spend ten days with Lieut. Gen. E. L. M. Burns, who is retiring as commander.
