A minimum wage for any occupation in Palestine may be fixed by Sir Arthur Wauchope, the High Commissioner of Palestine, according to an official announcement in the Palestine Gazette today.
An ordinance published in the Gazette today regulates the relations between employers and employes. The ordinance provides that persons employed on a monthly basis must be given at least a month’s notice before dismissal. Those employed on weekly contracts should be given one week’s notice if they have been employed for at least six months.
The ordinance further provides that if no notice is given wages are to be paid to the employe for the period covering the length of notice to which he is entitled.
Announcing that the High Commissioner may fix a minimum wage for any occupation in Palestine, the ordinance states that “penalty will be provided for going below the minimum, and recovery of the difference will be demanded when the minimum is not paid.”
