While stressing the need of further negotiations with the Brandeis-Mack group to maintain a united front among American Zionists, the New England regional Zionist convention here went on record as urging modification of the recently submitted memorandum of the Brandeis-Mack group before it could be declared acceptable to the Zionists.
The debate on the Brandeis memorandum, which overshadowed all other questions, was keen and lasted several hours. The leaders who urged that the memorandum in its present form be not accepted were David Radovsky, Joseph Schubow, I. J. Lower, and Rabbi Harry Kaplan.
Last year’s president, Dr. Hyman Morrison, was chosen honorary president and Elihu G. Stone, assistant U. S. Attorney, was named president. Other officers elected were A. Freedman, Bangor, Me., Col. Jacob Frank, Burlington, Louis Shapiro, Portsmouth, Col. Benjamin Evarts, Holyoke, Mrs. David A. Lourie, James D. Glunts, Moses Miskel, Benjamin Robalsky and Collman Silbert, all of Boston, vice-presidents, Henry Yozell of Lynn, treasurer and Dr. Anna Mintz, treasurer.
The principal addresses were made by Louis Lipsky, Mrs. Archiblald Silver of Providence, Menachem Rebalov, editor of the Hebrew weekly “Hadoar” and P. M. Raskin. Resolutions adopted condemned Great Britain for the immigration ban and recalled the memories of Judge David Lourie, Mrs. Lena Straus and Lord Balfour.
