The Treasury Department instends to enforce rigidly its order requiring goods imported on and after May 9 to bear the name of the country of origin instead of the name of the state or province as is now the practice.
The new order, an amendment to the customs regulations, becomes effective on that date, it was stated at teh Treasury Department. Customs officlais at all ports of entry have been furnished with copies of the new regulations.
According to the Treasury Department goods imported on and after May 9 will not be permitted to enter this country unless the requirements of the amended regulations are met. The name of the country of origin must be clearly indicated on each article. The regulations define the name of the country as being a political entity khown as a nation. Under this regulation goods imported from Germany must corry the word “Germany” in the required place on each article imported from that country. The Treasury Department made it clear that the designation of a sub-division as a place of origin will not be acceptable. This daes not apply to colonies outside the mother country.
