Yeshiva University’s new graduate School of Social Work, which includes the first university-based program to prepare social work personnel for Jewish agencies, was opened here today. Co-educational and non-denominational, it offers a two-year course of study leading to a master of science degree in social work.
Dr. Morton Teicher, a former member of the social work and medical faculties of the University of Toronto, has been named director. He described the new schools program as “geared to meet the growing need for social work personnel, especially social group workers, of both community-wide and Jewish agencies. This will mark the very first effort to train social workers in a university setting for service to the Jewish community,” he said.
The School of Social Work curriculum will provide students with 22 courses in the areas of social services, social work practice and human development and behavior, in addition to a minimum of 1, 200 hours of practical field work. Leading Jewish and general community agencies are cooperating in the field placement of trainees.
