A farewell gathering in honor of Shalom B. Maximon, Hebrew educator and writer, was held last night in the Derech Emunoh Community Center, Arverne, L. I., on the occasion of his departure for Cincinnati, Ohio, to assume his duties as Registrar of the Hebrew Union College, to which position he was recently appointed. For the past four years Mr. Maximon has been on the faculty of the School for Teachers of the Hebrew Union College in New York.
Dr. Mordecai Soltes, Director of Education of the Jewish Welfare Board presided at the gathering. The speakers included Dr. Samson Benderly, Director of the Bureau of Jewish Education; Dr. P. Churgin, Principal of the Teachers’ Institute of the Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary; Rabbis Henry Fisher, William B. Schwartz, Joshua Goldberg and Abraham Dubin.
