A fund-raising drive by the Jewish National Fund to develop a settlement on the Syrian border has exceeded its goal and assured completion of the project, it was announced here today. The announcement was made by Anthony Corre, chairman of the national council of JNF commissions, at the annual conference of the council. He said that more than $63,000 pounds sterling ($1,764,000) was raised in the year ending June, 1966, about 12,000 pounds ($33,600) more than during the previous year.
The project calls for development of about 240 acres for the settlement, called Korazim Bet, near Almagor, in Galilee. The settlement is located between the Syrian border and a station of Israel’s National Water Carrier. Reclamation work in that area has been suspended because of the tense border situation. The project will require outlays of more than 100,000 pounds sterling ($2,800,000) over a two-year period.
