(Special to the J.D.B.)
Jewish citizens here recently held a dinner to commemorate the 200th year of the settlement in New Jersey of Jewish People.
Jacques Rieur, a member of the community in relating the historical significance of the occasion told how isaac Moses of Passaic, whose parents settled in that section of New Jersey in 1734, was the donor of $15,000 to Washington’s Army and wrote a draft, which was endorsed by John Hancock and Samuel Adams for the relief of besieged citizens of Boston.
Laudatory references to the part played by Jews in the life of the state during the past two centuries were made by State Senator Wolber, Mayor Carlson, Town Commissioners Adams and Picken, Mrs Leon H. Fradkin, Prominent advocate of world peace and disarmament; Rabbi Solomon Foster, of Newark; Rabbi Max Raisin, of Paterson; and Harry madel and Nathan Whitfield, both of Montclair.
