New Jersey Zionists Form Zionist Region in State

With an attendance of 150 representative Zionist men and women from twenty-three communities throughout the state, the New Jersey Zionist Region was formed at a conference held here Sunday.

The new Region will concern itself with enrollment of more members in the Zionist ranks; strengthening of existing constituent bodies; intensive cultural and propaganda work; formation of Zionist youth societies and Young Judaea groups; and a more concentrated effort in behalf of the Jewish National Fund.

Considerable discussion was devoted to the National Fund and it finally culminated in the passage of a resolution pledging the Region to the raising of $210,000 within the next six years to establish a colony in Palestine in the name of the Jews of New Jersey. Speakers at the conference declared they were endeavoring to have the Jews of the state follow in the footsteps of Canadian Jewry.

The conference was addressed by Judge Bernard A. Rosenblatt, head of the Zionist Region of New York. In resolutions adopted, the conference pledged the support of the new Region to the Allied Jewish Campaign and unanimously approved the Nathanyah Colony project in Palestine.

Aaron Levinstone of this city presided over the conference, and the following officers were unanimously elected for the Region proper: President, Philip J. Schotland, of Newark; vice-president, Judge William Newcorn, of Plainfield; Miss Sarah Kussy, Rabbi Julius Silberfeld and Aaron Levinstone of Newark; treasurer, Mordecai L. Lipis, of Newark; secretary, David E. Bernstein, of Newark; executive director, Meyer S. Mintz, of Newark.
