A new political party in Palestine, Ichud Earachi, (Citizens Unity Party) was organized here today at a conference attended by hundreds of delegates from all parts of the country.
Mayor Rokaoh of Tel Aviv, who was elected president of the new party, emphasized the urgent need to establish a “Citizens Block” of those “who have invested millions in the upbuilding of Palestine.” He also eulogized the Palestine Jewish soldiers who fell fighting for Britain and Democracy and the Jewish victims of the Bagdad riots during the abortive Nazi-inspired coup there.
The conference passed a resolution listing the specific aims of the new party:
1-To organize, develop and defend the citizen’s economic and political rights.
2-To become a factor in fortifying the Yishub and the influence of the Zionist movement, without regard to party differences.
3-To cooperate with all sections of the Yishub on the basis of equality and just division of rights and obligations.
4-To develop other means of election to the Yishub institutions.
5-To oppose the Income Tax law, which was instituted in Palestine for the first time this year.
In his address Mayor Rokach regretted the absence, due to illness, of Pinchas Rutenberg and Arieh Shenkar, president of the Palestine Manufacturers Association. However, he read to the conference messages of greeting received from them. Dr. Shmorak, Rabbi Blau, Danial Auster and Joseph Saphir were the presidium of the conference.
