The first step in the reorganization of Omaha’s Jewish welfare program was taken here with the organization of a new welfare group, “The Jewish Philanthropies of Omaha,” and the announcement of a campaign to be held May 19 to June 1, for the benefit of constituent organizations.

The organization of the “Jewish Philanthropies” is an outgrowth of the survey of Omaha’s Jewish community by the Bureau of Jewish Social Research of New York. Under the plan proposed by the Bureau, the work of the Jewish Welfare Federation and the Jewish Community Center will be financed by the Omaha Community Chest, while other philanthropies of purely Jewish interest will be included in the “Jewish Philanthropies” group.

Sam Beber is chairman of the campaign, and Samuel Gerson is executive secretary. Harry H. Lapidus was chairman of the Citizens’ committee for the Survey, out of which the “Jewish Philanthropies” plan developed.
