Clearing of the site for the new Temple Emanu-el now is under way and within a short time actual construction will start.
The formal ground breaking for the new Temple took place last week with Henry L. Mayer, president of the congregtion, and Louis Bloch, chairman of the building committee, turning over the first shovelful of earth. There were no formal ceremonies.
The new synagogue will cost $1,000,000 and will be completed within a year. Soon afterward a Sunday school building, that will serve as well as a recreational center, will be built to adjoin the Temple at a cost of $250,000.
The main building will be Byzantine in type, seating 1800 people.
