The Official Gazette yesterday published an ordinance putting into effect previously announced plans to recruit a volunteer force for defense of Palestine.
Previously recruited volunteer units have been designed for service with the British army outside of Palestine. The new force will be used “to assist the regular forces in all measures required for prosecution of the war or ensuring internal security.”
The force will be divided into combatant reserve groups under a commanding officer to be appointed by High Commissioner Sir Harold Alfred MacMichael. Its maintenance will be defrayed from Palestine revenues.
