The newly appointed head of the Palestine police mobile units, Brigadier M.V. Ferguson, commanded the units of the Palmach–the Haganah striking force–which first penetrated into Syria in 1941, paving the way for the successful British campaign against the Vichy forces in the Levant, the newspaper Haboker reports today.
Ferguson, who served as a deputy to Maj. Gen. Orde Wingate during the Burma campaign, when Wingate–who trained many Palmach units–commanded the famous Wingate Raiders, has many friends among Jews in Palestine.
