The opening of the city’s new $1,000,000 J. Y. M. A. Building is scheduled for this Fall, according to announcement of Haskell H. Marks, president of the association. Trustees of the organization meeting later this month will discuss methods for financing the opening of the building, which has been delayed more than a year.
The new structure was planned in 1929. In a campaign among Jews of the city in that year, more than $1,000,000 was pledged for a new home of the J. Y. M. A.
The committee of trustees this month will seek $200,000 more for completing and furnishing the building in order to make it self-sustaining once it is opened.
The new building will contain meeting rooms, an auditorium seating 1,200 people, the Rabbi Horace Wolfe Library, full recreational facilities and 145 rooms for young Jewish transients.
The J. Y. M. A. and J. Y. W. A. and junior branches will be included in the building Executive director is Tobias Roth.
