New devices for handling animals, prior to their slaughter, in accordance with Jewish ritual law, went into use today in abbatoirs in this city, Winnipeg and Ottawa.
The devices were worked out to accord to humane slaughter requirements in recently enacted Government regulations, and were approved as conforming to Jewish laws on shechitah. The approval was given by Rabbi Eliezer Silver, of Cincinnati, and Rabbi Joseph Soloveitchik, of Boston.
The change-over to the new method of handling the animals prior to slaughter was accomplished here under arrangements by the Council of Orthodox Rabbis and the Jewish Community Council here.
