THE HIGH COURT TODAY ANNULLED A DEATH SENTENCE AGAINST WOLF SZCERBOWSKI, 18-YEAR-OLD BRZESC-LITEWSKI JEWISH YOUTH WHOSE SLAYING OF A POLISH POLICEMAN LAST SPRING SET OFF A POGROM IN WHICH 50 JEWS WERE WOUNDED, THREE OF THEM FATALLY. A NEW TRIAL BEFORE THE COURT OF APPEALS WAS ORDERED WHEN THE PUBLIC PROSECUTOR VOICED THE BELIEF THAT THE DEATH SENTENCE, PASSED LAST JUNE, WAS TOO SEVERE PUNISHMENT.
