A new Yiddish concert troupe has been formed in Leningrad, according to reports reaching here today from the Soviet Union. The group’s performances of Yiddish folk songs and modern Yiddish numbers by Soviet Jewish writers and composers have been extremely successful, according to these reports. Members of the troupe include Meir Braude, Simon Freidenberg and Anna Shevelieva.
At the same time, it was reported that a composition entitled “Jewish Folksongs, ” by the Soviet composer Dinitri Shostakovitch, was included in the program of the Soviet National Music Festival, an annual event which this year took place in the city of Gorki. The festival was dedicated to Shostakovich.
