The New York Yiddish theatrical season will begin during the week of Rosh Hashonah. The theatrical circuit in other cities, which the Hebrew Actors’ Union is establishing this year to relieve unemployment among its members, will also commence to function during the last week of this month.
Plans for the theatrical circuit were worked out at a meeting last week of the Hebrew Actors’ Union. Companies will be sent out to present Yiddish plays in Boston, Newark, Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg, Cleveland, St. Louis and Pittsburgh. Selection of the plays to be produced on the circuit and other details in connection with it will be attended to by the union, which will guarantee 50 per cent of the actors’ salaries. Reuben Guskin, manager of the union, will also manage the Yiddish theatrical circuit.
